Copper Canyon, Mexico
November 5 - 13, 2011
Escorted by Shelley Guardia

The Copper Canyon is considered to be one of the top scenic rail journeys in the world. Starting at sea level and climbing to 7,500 ft, the railroad passes through 86 tunnels and 38 bridges in the 25,000 square mile canyons of the Sierra Madre.

Start this 9 day adventure in Los Mochis. Travel to the colonial town of El Fuerto to board the train then journey by train to Divisadero, Cerocahui & Creel, the highest point of the trip.

Visit Batopilas - established in 1632 as a silver mining centre. Descend to the canyon floor by dizzying switchbacks. Spend two days hiking the trails, exploring the town or bird watching. Observe the Tarahumara Indians whose way of life, by choice, has changed little since before the arrival of the Spaniards.

This trip has the option of adding a few days in Los Mochis to relax and soak up some sun!
